Insects -
Early Spring
Brimstone
Butterflies
These great big, bright yellow butterfies love to fly on
the first sunny days of spring. Male Brimstones have a
stronger yellow tone than the pale green females, both have
an orange spot on the wing. Whilst it's too early to see
their catepillar form, they are bluey green with a line on
their lowers sides

Bumblebees
Whilst the late onset of cold weather in January and
February this year stopped the first bumblebees taking to
the wing early, they are out in force in early spring. In
fact we've seen one on a frosy morning in Ely

Spots
These insects are can be seen nearly anywhere, just keep an
eye out, especially on stiller days when they'll be moving
a bit more slowly
Orange Tip
Butterflies
The butterflies which typically range from one and a half
to two inches in size have bright orange tips (about the
last third) to their white wings, as the name suggest. They
tend to be found in wetter areas such as water meadows and
woodland close to drains and small watercourses
